Frenemies

Maddie smiled as she skipped down the sidewalk on this warm, sunny day. She was on her way home after a fun day playing with her dear friend, Ravis and her spirit was bursting with joy. She wish she could stay longer but she knew her father would surely nag her to come home, not wanting her to skip dinner. Maddie didn't enjoy her father's cooking; British food wasn't her taste. She perfered her dear papa's cooking; rich french food. She missed her papa, it had been years since she's seen him and not even her older brother, Matthew, knows where he is. She was stuck with her father, Arthur, and her other older brother, Alfred; but she didn't mind. As she turned the corner, Maddie couldn't help but notice a small boy sitting alone across the street. She stopped and stared, wonder who he was and what he was doing there.

Bored, Hashi sat on the edge of a wall essentially just people-watching, there wasn't much else for him to do nor did he particularly want to go bother someone anyway. There weren't many people walking around now though, and so he soon moved to looking at a large tree which, he wouldn't like to admit, but he was fascinated by. It was reasonable really seeing as though he never left his island when he was younger and there weren't many plants there. But now the island was empty and Japan had insisted he didn't stay there alone, so Hashi usually resorted to just people-watching, he figured it was close enough to social contact without the risk of being dragged into a group of others he didn't know.

Maddie frowned at the boy, feeling his lonelyness. She had been lonely before as well growing up, but she had a family now. She wondered if he had a family too, or friends at least. Maybe she could be his friend? Maddie walked across the street and slowly approached the boy but kept a small distance between them. "Erm..... Bonjour," She greeted shyly.

Quickly spinning his head to look at the girl, he tilted his head lightly with his usual slight frown returning to his face. Why was she talking to him? Considering ignoring her, he figured talking with her wouldn't be so bad, it wasn't like he was swarmed with people or anything. It must have been French she spoke, but he didn't know any so opted for English considering it was pretty widely spoken "... Hello?"

Maddie smiled, feeling accomplished. If she had gotten him to say hello, surely she could start a conversation. She sat down next the boy and kept her warm smile. "What are you doing here all alone," she question lightly, trying not to be offensive.

Hashi raised an eyebrow at her, why on earth is she interested in that? "I'm alone because I want to be?" Well, it wasn't entirely true, he did enjoy the company of others but he preferred being alone to being amongst large groups of others.

"Oh," She said quietly. She couldn't understand why anyone would want to be lonely; maybe that's just his way of being happy she guessed. "Well um,....... I'm Maddie!" She greeted. "What's your name, if you don't mind?"

Sighing lightly, Hashi shifted a little so he was now sat cross-legged and facing Maddie slightly. "You can call me Hashi. My turn for a question now. Why do you care?" He rested an elbow on his knee and his chin on his fist, he was genuinely wondering why, but also was pleased with being able to flip the conversation around, being questioned irked him to an extent.

Maddie blinked, staring surprised then gave a straight face. "Well I'm just wondering," She answered. "You just looked so lonely so I decided to come over and say hi...."

Hashi briefly looked away, frowning more out of slight confusion before looking back. "Well you didn't have to, so you can go now if you want." If she was ... concerned about him being lonely then she mustn't have any clue about his island's history, since most would probably see him being more alone as appropriate considering that.

Maddie's frown returned and before she could protest, she heard England calling from down the street. She rolled her eyes and got up annoyed. "Well um,......Goodbye, Hashi," She said before walking away, heading home.

Watching her retreat for a moment, Hashi glanced around and figured, since it was later in the day and less people were outside now he may as well head back for the night. Hopping off the wall his mind wandered and of course he ended up back at Maddie, he knew he could be quite an asshole at times, but she didn't get angry at him, maybe she was too nice, maybe she was just stupid.

(... Odd Hetalia place where all the countries all live near each other? Pffftt. Or maybe say there was some sort of World summit thing in England and everyone else is stuck in a hotel or something. |D)

Maddie walked inside her home where she was greeted by her brothers and father. After a rather "interesting" dinner, she retreated upstairs to her room and laid on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She tried to think of why Hashi was so....Distant. It bothered her slightly and she needed an answer. Pouting, she rolled over and stared at her large fish tank that sat right next to her bed.

I pictured like all the nations living in one big ass neighborhood. Cuz it's like: "Well if we're all going to the same damn place everyday, why not all live RIGHT NEXT TO EACHOTHER!?" - *shot*))

After getting up, Hashi decided he would head back to where he had been yesterday, he usually wandered around a bit but he figured he would be more likely to meet Maddie again there. Even after their brief conversation he concluded that she would be someone he could get along with well, she wasn't one of the people who complained at him, nor was like those few humans who obsessed over ruins and abandoned buildings. Hopping back onto the same wall as yesterday he yawned lightly before looking around, seeing a few familiar people walking the streets.

Maddie was on her way to go play with Ravis again this morning but stopped, seeing Hashi in his same spot as yesterday. She hesitated but decided to join him again. Maddie walked over again and smiled again. "Hi again, Hashi," She greeted.

Letting a small smile appear on his face for a moment, Hashi quickly made sure to return to a more neutral expression. "Hey. Where are... were? You going?" He honestly wasn't too interested but wasn't sure on what else to talk about, going with the first thing he thought of.

"Huh? Oh! I was on my way to visit my friend, Ravis!" She answered cheerfully. "He's a bit shy, but he's really sweet~"

Hashi rolled his eyes, "I didn't ask for a biography of him," He smirked, poking her forehead, "Stupid~".

Maddie pouted cutely and rubbed her forehead. "Well sorry!" She whined. "You're the one who asked, didn't you?"

"Again, I still never asked about your friend." Smirking still, he poked at her forehead again, entertained.

Maddie glared furiously then lightly, slapped Hashi. "So mean!" She yelled then continued to pout.

Flinching and frowning for a moment, Hashi quickly crossed his arms and a smirk tugged at his lips again. "Says you who has come to sit next to me two days in a row?"

"That's not being mean!" She agrued. "That's caring and being nice! You could at least be a bit greatful; I don't have to be here, you know...." Maddie's pout was replaced with a small frown.

Hashi sighed and rolled his eyes, poking her on the forehead again. "That's not what I meant stupid. If I'm mean then why did you come back to sit next to me again?" He tilted his head lightly, raising an eyebrow.

"Because it's being nice, I guess," Maddie said with a shrug. "I can't just leave you here all alone; that's mean..."
